Motorola Might Provide New Option For App Development

App development is undergoing changes on multiple platforms, which seem to be evolving at an ever-faster rate. Motorola has shifted their corporate philosophy and opted to switch up their widescreen tablet format to focus on the same 4:3 aspect ratio being utilized by Apple's iPad. Currently on the market, the Motorola Xoom, as well as the Android Honeycomb 10 inch tablet, has a 1280 x 800 resolution display screen while the iPad incorporates a 1024 x 768 screen, which makes it shorter and thicker than its Android competitor.

Some people will choose to observe this distinction as a minute or abstract comparison, but the difference is definitely noticeable. Widescreen tablets are optimal for viewing video, due to the fact that high definition movies encompass the entire screen. However, a widescreen tablet is not ideal for reading purposes and is widely viewed as cumbersome and inconvenient. The new Motorola tablet will utilize the Android Ice Cream Sandwich, which accommodates all versions of each device. App development will continue to thrive for smartphones, television sets and tablets. The overall switch to 4:3 could prove to be an excellent move for Motorola, if it helps the company differentiate its tablet from Android's. This change is not going to result in a quick fix, however.

The Motorola Xoom flopped in the retail sector because of the incomplete software and hardware components of the device. At a 0 price tag, the Motorola Xoom was more expensive then its competitors, yet had more problems. During its initial launch, Motorola had difficulties with its Xoom microSD slot, which did not work at all. Due to that convenience, customers were promised a free upgrade to 4G data, to which Motorola has not honored. The customer continues to wait.

Giving the customers what they want is critical to growth in this rollercoaster marketplace. The next challenge for Motorola will be how to differentiate their products from the growing number of devices hitting store shelves.
